Kemp Town Enclosures tunnel restoration

Kemp Town Enclosures tunnel

Gyoury Self will be working with Deacons Building Services on the restoration of a historic tunnel located at the Kemp Town Enclosures in Brighton.

Constructed in the 1830’s, the tunnel runs down under the south gardens and Marine Parade, giving direct access to the esplanade and Brighton beach.

Commissioned by Kemp Town Enclosures Ltd, the project includes stabilisation of the north spandrel wall and repointing of the brickwork and tunnel lining.  Due to the tunnel’s age, traditional building materials will be used, such as specialist lime mortars and imperial bricks.
