Phase 2 construction works on Eastbourne College’s new sports centre, swimming pool and dining facilities are now well underway.
The main 4-storey sports hall steel frame is in place and the six 22 metre-long Westok beams that span the pool and viewing gallery have now been installed. The current target is to have all of the construction steel and floors in place by mid-May.
Other works currently ongoing include the roof decking and weatherproofing to the north half of the building, blockwork to the basement areas and sports hall and commencement of the face brickwork and flint panels. Five staircases have also been installed.
The new 5 Badminton Court Sports Hall will be suitable for indoor hockey, netball, basketball, indoor cricket, volleyball, archery and indoor football. The 25m swimming pool will be 6-lane competition standard. Other facilities under construction include 2 glass-backed squash courts, dance and fitness studios, and changing accommodation for pupils and staff.
The current Phase 2 construction works are on target for completion in Spring 2018.
Phase 1 works included construction of the Nugee Building, a teaching block named after former headmaster John Nugee, as well as a new cricket pavilion, ICT suite and school shop.
