The outlook for residents at the Elizabeth House apartment block in East Grinstead has been improved through the installation of an architectural steelwork screen.
Constructed from specialist-fabricated steel panels, the screen serves as both a visual and acoustic barrier for the recently-completed residential development, which is located adjacent to the back of the Scott Cinema.
Gyoury Self’s Sussex team was commissioned by project contractor/developer Whitehall Homes to provide structural engineering design and detailing for the 6-metre high steel screen. As the screen is free-standing, designs had to accommodate the high overturning moments under wind load. This included new pad foundations alongside and dowelled to the in situ wall footing, coordinated to miss the existing pumping station.
