Expansion of the Alfred Sutton Primary School in Reading is on course for completion at the end of this month. Improvements to the layout – which include a new 10-classroom block, outdoor play space, a refurbished main entrance and a new office area – will increase the school’s capacity by 210 places.
Gyoury Self undertook the structural design and detailing of the new 2-storey, steel-framed teaching block and single-storey nursery block, as well as civil engineering design and detailing for the hard standings, external drainage and new road access through the school.
The Alfred Sutton project forms part of Reading Borough Council’s School Expansion Programme; a £64m development scheme aimed at addressing the increased demand for primary school places in Reading. Gyoury Self is currently providing structural and civil engineering services to the main contractor Galliford Try on five of the schools within the expansion programme:
- Alfred Sutton Primary School
- St.Michael’s Primary School
- The Ridgeway Primary School
- Southcote Primary School
- Churchend School
