Construction is now well underway at the Bridge Garage mixed use development in Cowfold, West Sussex.
The new development was commissioned by Clark Lifting, a supplier of heavy lifting equipment to the construction industry, and the buildings will replace a smaller workshop that the company has now outgrown.
We are providing full structural and civil engineering services for the new development which was designed by Caldotec Architectural Design. Great progress has already been made on the new development, which combines an industrial unit/workshop and ground floor offices with a self-contained residential unit above.
The structure is a portal frame, supporting lightweight composite cladding to the roof and workshop walls. The front section has masonry cavity walls with external brickwork cladding.
The first floor consists of steel beams and columns supporting a reinforced concrete composite floor deck. The main east elevation includes large industrial doors and the building has a gantry crane to the full workshop area.
Throughout design and construction, great care has been given to preserving the integrity of existing properties that are situated adjacent to the new development at a significantly higher level.
A new reinforced concrete blockwork retaining wall has been constructed and particular attention has been paid to the sequencing of works to safeguard the stability of any adjacent structures.
The project is progressing well and is on track to be handed over to the client next Spring.
