Engineers at our Fareham office were recently faced with an unusual structural damage emergency following a ‘ram raid’ at the HSBC Bank on the High Street in Alton, Hampshire.
The thieves used a stolen JCB Telehandler to punch a hole in the wall and remove the bank’s ATM cash machine in the early hours of the morning.
Significant structural damage was caused to the listed building and a large amount of masonry and debris was strewn around the surrounding area.
Following a phone call early the next day, we attended the site immediately to assess the damage and advise on temporary propping and shoring works to enable contractors to make the building safe and get clearing up underway.
Our staff liaised with Hampshire Police, HSBC staff and contractors to ensure that the works were carried out in a safe and timely manner.
“It has been quite a challenge to secure the branch and get it up and running so quickly, and it has meant a number of people working hard over the weekend to ensure we can continue to serve the community. They have been amazing.” HSBC Bank
Two people were later arrested in connection with the incident.
