Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre

Artists impression of project

Gyoury Self engineers are still working remotely and one of the projects currently underway is preparatory works for construction of the new Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre in North West Leicestershire.

Working with main contractor Metnor Construction, we have been finalising engineering designs for enabling works with the support of sub-contractor Doran Consulting.  The Section 278 designs for the junction with the A511 Stephenson Way and the associated highway bridge over the Grace Dieu Brook giving access onto the site have now been completed and approved by Leicestershire County Council Highway authority.

The bridge is on the critical path, as until it is completed, access for the main contract works is extremely limited.  Therefore to shorten the enabling works contract, the bridge design will utilise pre-cast, pre-stressed bridge beams supplied by Banagher Precast Concrete.  These will be craned into place onto the abutment walls and an insitu concrete topping cast over the top to form the final, composite bridge deck.

Enabling works are due to begin onsite later this month. Metnor Construction has appointed Hannafin as the groundwork contractor.

The £22 million project is being developed by North West Leicestershire District Council in partnership with Everyone Active, a leisure contractor that manages over 200 leisure and cultural centres across England.
