The Gyoury Self Partnership has recently designed a plant platform for an industrial site in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
The site was very constrained, with the platform having to fit between existing buildings on three sides and a nitrogen tanks on the fourth side.
It was also in close proximity to two other nitrogen tanks and an electric generator. In addition, there were extensive below ground services which had to be taken in to account with the foundation design.
The buildings and services remained in operation during the construction works, including maintaining fire escape routes that passed through the construction site. Tolerances against existing buildings and plant on site were very tight.
The height of the lower level of the platform, and the clear span of the platform beams, was dictated by an existing goods door which was to remain operational at the completion of the project.
Gyoury Self maintained a close liaison with the Contractor and the Client during the design process to ensure that all the above restrictions were considered at the design stage, including the erection sequence of the steel frame and craneage requirements.
The project was completed on time and on budget.
