Our latest heritage building extension project at Hobbs Cottage will add a modern twist to this Grade II listed property in Pycombe West Sussex.
The cottage itself is a detached 17th century 2-storey dwelling located within the Countryside Area of Development Restraint and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), so the project has been subject to strict planning and development controls.
Working alongside DD Architects, a conservation architecture practice based in Brighton, we have engineered sympathetic designs for the extension of an existing garage adjacent to the cottage.
The proposal is to mirror the existing garage to create two gable-ended buildings connected by a central glass structure. The new two-storey extension will feature a glass staircase and standing seam metal cladding.
By maintaining the original garage design, the new building fits harmoniously with the existing property. The lightweight glazed link also helps prevent the newly extended dwelling from overpowering the main heritage building.
The Gyoury Self Sussex team is providing full structural and civil engineering services for the Hobbs Cottage extension project, which is due to start on site shortly.
