Another East Sussex landmark building, this two-storey clubhouse was designed and specified to resist the harsh coastal environment at Seaford Head.
The upper floor accommodates club bar and restaurant facilities with sweeping views over the golf course and out to sea. Changing facilities, plant rooms and the pro shop are located at ground floor level.
The building structure and cladding material had to be designed and specified to resist the harsh coastal environment. Wind loads are excessive in the exposed location on the cliff tops and the surface temperature can range from -25o to + 80o.
To deal with this the superstructure is predominately formed using reinforced Durisol hollow blocks to support widespan pre-stressed concrete floor planks. At first floor this is supplemented by a steel frame to give large open areas at the front, braced back to the walls at the rear.
The combination of these elements provides the necessary robustness required for the 50 year design life of the primary structure.
