This was a complex phased construction of commercial buildings and refurbishment of an existing two storey 1960’s reinforced concrete framed factory to form business units, on a contaminated ‘brown field’ site.
The original Victorian building and soil below it were contaminated by radio-activity from historic manufacturing processes. The ground was also contaminated by sulphates, mercury and dry cleaning fluids.
Gyoury Self organised the initial ‘clean up’ of the radioactivity within the basement, supervised building demolition, then organised the remediation of the made ground overlying the site to Environment Agency and Environmental Health Agency approval.
Gyoury Self was engaged directly by the client to provide full structural and civil engineering services, including remediation specification and validation.
