A commercial development of industrial/business units on a sloping site with associated infrastructure. All structures are portal frames on complex reinforced concrete foundations.
Site logistics and construction techniques were complicated by close proximity to the existing transport infrastructure, which included a public highway rising over a railway on a bridge to the west of the site.
Several large buildings that occupied the site had been used by the Co-op for food processing and distribution. Below these were the foundations and basements of late Victorian buildings that had formed part of a dairy. As a result of these obstructions in the ground, the new foundation had to be extended below them and ground floor slabs suspended over basements and pits.
Gyoury Self provided full structural & civil engineering services directly for the client. This included the section 278 works for access road junction with Portland Road.
