Project Description

Client: County Gate Properties Ltd
Location: Comptons Lane, Horsham, West Sussex
Year Completed: 2019
Value: £1.6m
Contractor: Reilly Construction
Architects: Brookes Architects

An existing house was demolished to make way for this new build residential development of four detached houses on a large corner plot.

The houses were built with load bearing masonry walls supporting timber framed, trussed roof and engineered timber joists for the first floor.

The substructure consisted of trench fill mass concrete foundations bearing into underlying sandy clay of the Wealden Group, with a suspended beam and block slab forming the ground floor.

Gyoury Self was appointed to provide full structural and civil engineering services for the new homes.

The Challenges

Surface water disposal at the site was complicated by the clay soils. A deep trench soakaway had to be installed in the rear gardens to access sandy soils with improved permeability.
