Project Description

Client: University of Sussex
Location: Falmer Campus, Brighton
Year Completed: 2007
Contractor: Haymills
Architect: Architects Design Partnership
Contract value: £10 Million

Another notable student accommodation project for the University of Sussex, the Swanborough Flats development provides 300 student flats on the Falmer Campus.

The residence blocks were constructed using a pre-cast concrete panel system for the upper floors and roof, supported by an in situ transfer structure at first floor level.

Employing Modern Methods of Construction, the pre-cast system was pre-fabricated off site.

The buildings are supported on mass and reinforced concrete footings, bearing into upper middle chalk. Environmental techniques utilised to eliminate the need for comfort cooling.
