We have been contracted by Morgan Sindall to provide structural and civil engineering for extension and refurbishment works at St. Bede’s School in Redhill, Surrey.
Works will include construction of a new 3-storey extension to the main teaching block, incorporating eight new classrooms and three science laboratories. The existing Arts Block will also be extended to include enhanced music facilities and classrooms for IT and business studies.
Internal adaptations include two new technology workshops. The dining area will also be enlarged and a new entrance will be constructed next to the main hall.
Engineering challenges will include addressing underlying clay and groundwater issues with regards to the foundations. In addition, as it is not possible to use a soakaway system for disposal of surface water, a groundwater management system with attenuation tank and pumping chamber will be required.
Building work is due to commence in October 2017 with the new facilities ready to open 12 months later.
