We are currently providing structural engineering for an electrical infrastructure upgrade project for marine engineering company, Cox Powertrain.
The project involves the installation of a new ring main and sub-station at the facility where Cox Powertrain designs and manufactures it’s world-leading, high-performance diesel outboard motors.
Current works on site include installation of the new external concrete slab to support plant and tanks.
Gyoury Self has undertaken designs, including reinforcement details and schedules for the slab, LV Transformer room base and Ring Main Unit Base, plus changes to the below ground surface water drainage.
One of the main challenges of the site is the very low bearing capacity in the near surface clayey sand. This called for careful design of the slab and electrical equipment bases to ensure settlements were within acceptable limits. High strength concrete has been used for the slab to ensure resistance to corrosion and freeze-thaw effects in the harsh marine environment.
We are working on the Cow Powertrain project alongside civils contractor Bramber Construction, and electrical contractor and designer MES Power Engineering.
