The Portswood House student complex project in Southampton has been completed and students are now in residence. The Portswood scheme is an extensive student accommodation development providing 435 studio bedrooms as well as extensive communal areas, including a tiered cinema room, private dining room, a 24/7 accessible gym and a games area.
Working with Morgan Sindall to deliver the Vita Student project for Select Property, we provided full structural and civil engineering design and detailing for the development scheme.
Gyoury Self has already engineered a number of student accommodation projects in Southampton and surrounding areas, and the Portswood Road development is most extensive to date.
Certainly a great improvement on the Bus Depot that existed previously on this site! Although the previous use of the site did result in a few ground contamination issues. This was one of the reasons for using Continuous Helical Displacement (CHD) piles which, by virtue of their method of installation, do not bring any potentially contaminated soil up to the surface. They are also as quiet and non-percussive to install as more conventional CFA piles. Richard Aston, Associate Partner, Gyoury Self
