The new cycle hub at Tonbridge railway station has been completed and officially opened by Kent County Councillors.
Gyoury Self was appointed by Drivepoint Contractors to provide structural engineering services for the new build single-storey building, which is located at the Barden Road entrance to the station.
The new cycle hub was commissioned by Network Rail/Southeastern to encourage local commuters to cycle to the station. It features secure parking for 280 cycles and a repair station with tyre pumps, plus a refreshment area for station staff.
The new building is comprised of a single-storey steel frame structure on piled foundations, with suspended ground floor slab.
One of the main project challenges was constructing the building on a tight site located next to the railway station and adjacent to a busy main road.
The Tonbridge Cycle Hub project architect was TTPP (The Trevor Patrick Partnership Ltd) and the steel frame was fabricated by SNS (Snashall Steel Fabrication Ltd).
