PROJECT: Mixed Used Residential/Retail
LOCATION: Edinburgh, Scotland
STEELWORK CONTRACTOR: BHC Ltd
MAIN CONTRACTOR: Laing O’Rourke
PROJECT VALUE: £40m
Edinburgh St James is the city’s premier new retail-led mixed use development. It offers offers 850,000 sq. ft. of prime retail, food and leisure space, as well as a luxury standard W Hotel and 152 private residential apartments.
We worked on the project for two years, providing steel connection design work for BHC Ltd; a major structural steelwork design and installation company based in South Lanarkshire, Scotland.
As the main steelwork contractor, BHC Ltd. was commissioned to supply, fabricate and erect over 16, 000 tonnes of steelwork and approximately 110,000m2 of metal decking.
To meet the demands of this extensive re-development project, Gyoury Self was enlisted to design a wide spectrum of standard and non-standard connection designs; ranging from simple flexible end plate connections, to full end plate connections under extremely high tie forces, as well as many complex connections with a range of angles and section sizes.
The latest design technology and software was used, including IDEAStatiCa for the design and code-check of the more challenging connection designs.
The retail and leisure element is anticipated to complete in 2020, followed by full scheme completion in 2021.
