Coalville Leisure Centre Progress

We were excited to be on site last week for an important milestone in the construction of Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre in North West Leicestershire.

Photo of Westok curved cell beam installationWith most of the main steel frame in place, the site team undertook installation of the giant 28 metre curved Westok beams over the swimming pool hall.

Gyoury Self engineers worked closely with Glendale Engineering and the team at Kloeckner Metals UK | Westok to refine the bespoke beam design. The beams were then fabricated on site at Glendale’s workshop in Wooler, Northumberland.

The new £22m leisure complex project, commissioned by North West Leicestershire Council in partnership with Everyone Active, is really taking shape on site now the steel frame is almost complete. Already in place are the cell beam rafters for a 34 metre long span structure providing an unobstructed, column-free space over the sports hall.

Meanwhile final structural works are underway inside the building; including finalisation of the main pool tanks and spa pool.

This has been an amazing project to engineer and we have been greatly impressed by the overall team spirit and pace of development on site, led by the main contractor Metnor Construction.
